This message from Dennis J. Coleman DDS – Family & Cosmetic Dentistry in Davidson is about brushing your teeth- something we all do (or should do) twice a day.
What The Experts Say
Dental experts and researchers believe you should brush your teeth a minimum of two minutes twice a day. There was a study published by the British Dental Journal which reported that a majority of experts recommended brushing for two minutes, with the remainder recommending MORE than 2 minutes. The American Dental Association backs the two-minute rule, and so does our team.
What The Science Says
Research supports the recommendation to brush for at least two minutes. The longer you brush your teeth, the more plaque you remove, Studies published in the Journal of Dental Hygiene back this up – with the longer you brush your teeth, the more plaque you remove. (Of course, we’re not recommending a 30 minute tooth brushing time. Just stick with the 2 minute time frame.)
Why Brushing Your Teeth Takes Two Minutes
Two minutes may feel like an awfully long time when brushing your teeth, but make sure you’re doing it thoroughly. Split your mouth into quadrants, and spend equal time in each section. Try a timer – it’s only 2 minutes twice a day. Trust us – your teeth are worth it.
