Dental Crowns and Dental Bridges
For a patient who has experienced tooth damage or serious infection, a well placed dental crown or bridge can be a miracle. You’ll be able to chew properly again, speak without any lisps or difficulties, and enjoy your smile the way it was meant to be.
What Is a Dental Crown?
The crown of your natural tooth is the portion above the gums. It’s covered in enamel, which is a hard, durable substance. Unfortunately, even enamel can be worn away or broken, often through insufficient oral hygiene or some kind of accident.
When the tooth crown becomes damaged or decayed, we can place a synthetic tooth crown to restore your tooth to complete health. Dental crowns are made of high-quality porcelain that blends right in with your natural teeth. It will work, look, and feel like every other tooth in your mouth.
The Benefits of a Dental Crown
- A dental crown allows us to save teeth that would otherwise require extraction.
- Synthetic tooth crowns are completely sealed, protecting your tooth from infection and temperature pain.
- After an infection, a dental crown will preserve your tooth roots. This keeps your gums and jawbone healthy.
- Our dental crowns are made with the finest quality porcelain and are made in the USA.
- Porcelain allows us to replicate your tooth’s natural color and luster. Your friends won’t even be able to tell that you’re wearing a dental crown.
- Each dental crown is handcrafted for every individual patient.
- Our crowns can be used in many different restorative dentistry procedures, including root canals.
Dental Bridges
Replace Your Lost Tooth with a Beautiful Dental Bridge from Dr. Coleman or Dr. Dastrup
A bridge is a dental appliance that is used to fill in a gap left by a missing tooth or missing teeth. To create a dental bridge, we start by attaching crowns to the adjacent teeth. These teeth serve as anchors for a connected crown or series of crowns which bridge the empty space.
Dental bridges are actually created using the same process as our top-quality porcelain crowns. They are a great option if you are missing teeth. With a bridge, you will be able to enjoy the benefits of a full, beautiful smile again.
We are proud to offer digital dental impressions to our patients to improve the comfort, accuracy, and efficiency of your care. Whether we’re repairing your smile or making cosmetic improvements, digital impressions are the latest technology for streamlining the process, making it easier for both our patients & our dental team.
Traditional impressions are particularly uncomfortable for patients with a very sensitive gag reflex. Gagging while taking dental impressions was not just a problem for the patient, either. Not being able to hold still as a result of gagging could shift the impression tray and make the mold less accurate.
Dental Crowns & Bridges Procedure
Crown and bridge restorations are an integral part of our dental practice because they are so important in protecting our patients’ smiles.
Dental Crowns
Dental Crowns prolong the life of your natural tooth by protecting it when it sustains damage or deep decay and is no longer structurally strong enough to support the workload put on the tooth.
As with all treatments, we will make sure your tooth area is completely numb before beginning.
After assuring your supporting tooth is strong and free of decay, Dr. Dastrup or Dr. Coleman will take an impression to create a permanent restoration that fits precisely with your adjacent and opposing teeth. He will place a temporary restoration on your tooth to keep it comfortable and bacteria-free while your permanent crown is created at our trusted dental lab.
We use metal-free, tooth-colored crowns that eliminate unsightly dark margins. What this means for you is a more natural appearance. No one will notice that you have dental crowns!
Dental Bridges
Dental Bridges fill the gap when a patient loses a tooth.
Bridges are a stable and reliable way to fill the gap in your smile. Because your dental bridge attaches to your adjacent teeth, it will be immobile when you chew and speak. Dr. Dastrup or Dr. Coleman will prepare the two healthy adjacent teeth for the dental crowns that suspend your artificial tooth in place. The entire bridge unit will match your teeth, appearing seamless when you smile.
Dental Crowns & Bridges FAQ
What Is a Digital Impression?
Digital impressions are taken using an intraoral scanner that creates a detailed 3D image of your mouth. The scanner is small enough that it fits on the end of a wand. It looks like the tool we use to polish your teeth, only bigger. We take the scan by systematically moving the wand around your mouth as it emits a specialized scanning light. The images of your mouth can be viewed on a computer screen within seconds, to be viewed by both you & the dentist.
Digital impressions are used in restorative dentistry to create tooth replacements, such as crowns and bridges. Digital impressions can also be used in dental implant procedures, both for planning implant placement & to create a surgical guide that ensures accurate placement of implants on the day of the operation. The accuracy of digital impressions is equivalent to traditional impressions, and evidence suggests it may be even more accurate.
Because we can see the 3D model of your mouth immediately, we will know right away if any section of it doesn’t look right, & we can rescan you quickly right away, without having to ask you to come back in later as with traditional impressions.
